Yes, I am still alive.... and do check in here now and then, though not as I once did  I was appalled to see how long it has been since I updated my Journal - omg, how embarrassing!  I have a zillion messages in my Inbox, too many to go through, and no doubt many amazing deviations to look at!  But that is not something I can tackle today, so for now I thought I would just bring you lots of cookies (and their codes) that I have baked specially for you - to use/abuse as you see fit.  I love you all, and miss you like crazy... and still check Notes now and then if anyone needs to reach me   Enjoy!

GIFTS AND FEATURES  - WOO HOO!!

I keep saying that I am getting back here and then I get swept away again, so I am forcing myself to actually follow through this time and change my Journal as I intended to do today

Hello, all!  Happy new year and I hope all of you are doing well!  I am still trying to get caught up here from my rather long dA hiatus, but I am getting there slowly   I have a couple of new manips I am working on so maybe I can start being more active here again soon (I hope)   I miss you all so much!  

In the meantime, I was gently reminded recently that my Journal still said "Merry Christmas," which I could have claimed was for 2012 and I was just getting a jump start on things, but many of you know me too well to fall for that   So yes, I am here to update things.  Alas, I am pressed for time today to go through all the deviations sitting in my Inbox waiting to be admired and faved, so for now I am opening this Feature up to YOU!  Anyone who comments here and leaves me the thumb number of one or two of your works, I will add you to the Features here

Hello, everyone... Sorry once again for my inactivity here for the last several weeks   As some of you know, I struggle sometimes with bouts of depression - usually they come and go very quickly, and no one even notices it, but this time it seems to be taking longer to shake it off.  Please don't worry, it will pass - it always does.  In the meantime, however, I have not felt like doing anything new, and honestly I don't know when I will.  So for those who have been waiting to be "elfed" or anything else from me, I'm afraid I may have to renege on my offer to do these things after all, and ask for your forgiveness   I also felt so overwhelmed lately that I had to clear out my inbox and start over again.  I will get to to look through all of the galleries of those of you that I am watching eventually, but I did not want anyone to think that I have not faved their work because I didn't like it or anything like that: I just haven't seen any of it yet    And happy belated birthday to all those whose cookies  have missed elivering for those special celebrations.  Again, sorry for being so scarce... I hate being like this   I do try to get here to answer notes still, so you can find me there if anyone really needs me for anything.

One thing that I try to do to get out of these moods is to just count my blessings (of which there are many), and to realize that others do have it much worse than I am.  My friend Sara is really going through some rough spots now - both financially and health-wise - and is offering to do very inexpensive commissions if anyone is interested... And even if you cannot help her out, stop by and give her a hug

Oh, and please keep in your prayers, too... I have not heard from her in awhile, but things were not looking good at all last time I did

Hello, all!

Yes, it's that time again: time to change the Journal 'cause I'm tired of looking at it   

As some of you may recall, I mentioned in a previous Journal entry recently that I was going to make some changes to my gallery... but I haven't.  Call it laziness, call it hesitations, call it surrender - whatever.  At the moment I am just too "meh" to worry about it... so for now, pay no attention to the fickle cookie woman and her impulsive silliness...

Next up: I don't usually participate in tags and chain-type messages and such, but this one from ~NatiaGreenleaf seemed to hit me at a time when I really didn't know what else to do with my Journal anyway, so here you go:

1. What does your Deviant art name mean and why?
"Valedhelven" is a name I came up with many MANY years ago for a character I used to play when I was young and nerdy (nerdier...) and played D&D all the time - lol! It is an Elvish name (surprise, surprise) made up from parts I found in the back of the Lord of the Rings - Return of the King... "When I was your age, television was called 'books...'" (and I will make a stamp for the first person who can name the movie that quote is from, and an extra surprise to the first one who bothers to look up what the Elvish parts of my name mean and tells me correctly...)

2. What fandom were you obsessed with when you joined and what are you into now?
I'm not entirely sure what a "fandom" is (...must be a young-person-thing... ), but based on Andie's answer, I am going to assume it's just something that you're obsessed with, and you all know by now that it is Elves, LOTR, and just about anything Fantasy... oh, and COOKIES!   Again, no surprises...

3. How many watchers do you have now?
Egads, I don't know - lol!  Let me go and look.... ...Yikes!  2701!!   You people are all NUTS!... but thanks just the same!

4. Name 3 of your favorite artists on DA.
No way... I 630 people, and there are many that I worship/admire/envy, etc., from every different style of art dA has to offer... You know who you are!  And for anyone who wants to know, feel free to browse my Favorites folders...

5. Do you comment, fav, or both?
Mostly just fave these days... very little time for comments, but I will if there is time to do so.

6. Do you participate in clubs' contests here on dA?
Used to, but don't anymore...

7. What is your most popular submission?
Still my "Pegicornitauress Mosh" [link] "Elf Sisters" has been making a strong go of it lately [link]

8. What are your favorite non-anime TV shows?
lol - I am SO glad this said "non-anime" shows 'cause I don't think I could even name an anime show!   I honestly don't watch much TV... Favorite show of all time was "Gilmore Girls," but, alas, it is gone.  I like "Castle," "White Collar," and "Psych" when they are on... Used to watch "Monk," too, and was a HUGE fan of all the Star Trek series when they were on (especially TNG), but again, those are long gone.  Will occasionally watch "Dr. Who" or pull up reruns of "Dharma & Greg" or other old sit-coms...   

9. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
I just wish I had the time to draw again... then I would worry about drawing better - lol!

10. Summer or winter?
Definitely Winter of the two, but I am a Fall girl at heart...

11. Rain or Sun?
Rain!  I love the rain: walking in it, swimming in it, gardening in it... I love the smell of it and everything about it

12. What's your favorite type of music?
I get a lot of teasing for my "eclectic" taste in music... I have the craziest mix on my iTunes!  Not a fan of Rap or Metal, and most Classical gets on my nerves after a very short time, but other than that, pretty much anything goes!

13. PC or Mac?
I use both, and each has it's pros and cons...  

14. Anime or Manga?
I couldn't honestly tell you what the difference it, even though others have explained it to me numerous times   But my daughter likes to draw anime, and I like her drawings, so I will have to go with anime on this one by default

15. Coke or Pepsi?
Coke, most definitely!  But I won't pass up an old fashioned Creme Soda or Root Beer, either

16. Read or TV?
Read, most definitely!  

17. How many hours a day do you spend on dA?
FAR too much!   But my job is such that I have many, many small breaks between tasks, so I am not usually on for long periods al at once

18. Name a talent.
I can juggle a bit...

19. Flash or traditional cartoons?
Classic traditional cartoons, but I do like a few Flash ones, too (like "Making Fiends" )

20. What is your favorite fast food restaurant?
I don't really eat fast food often... If I am going to stop off somewhere for something quick, I generally look for a Panera Breads...

1. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

...although lately I have discovered the Amelia Peabody series and am having a ball reading them - something entirely new for me!

I joined a couple others, but dA takes up all of my time

I used to "cosplay" back when it was still just called "dressing up in costume" and was generally isolated to Halloween - lol!  Not anymore, though

Chocolate-covered fruit!! Yummmmm!

33. Buttered, plain, or salted popcorn?
Not a big fan of popcorn - too much air, not enough chocolate - but if I have to, butter and salt are a necessity

Only when I was sick, so I don't think that counts...

Countless times... used to have to weekly for my job

Waded, but never swam in it

Loved Alaska and Canada... Pretty much anywhere with lots of trees and quiet.  Would love to get back to Europe sometime, though

Hello everyone!

I have found quite a few new beautiful images lately that I wanted to share... but first, I need to attend to some old business.  Many of you will remember my little fund-raising drive a couple years ago for to get her and her family back together (long story - I won't rehash the details here).  It has been a rough road, and here is the latest update in her Journal: [link] prayers and such are very appreciated, and anyone who might want to help out in other ways, let me know and I can get you an email address for PayPal, or a mailing address for anything else (gift cards to WalMart, Save-a-Lot, Publix, etc... all in her area).  You guys did an awesome thing for her before, and she is not asking or expecting anything this time at all - she hates it when I try to help her like this - lol!  So please don't anyone feel obligated - there are plenty of others around us every day that also need help, so I totally understand how tight things are for everyone   Just wanted to bring it to your attention, that's all...

Hello again, one and all

For those that have just started watching me recently and/or just don't know me very well, I apologize in advance for the weirdness of this Journal - it will probably make no sense.  For those of you who have been watching me for quite awhile and/or know me fairly well, this will probably make only marginally more sense than it does to the afore mentioned group   Bear with me...

Basically, every once in awhile since I have come here to dA (...has it really been 4+ years already?? ), I go through these phases once in awhile where I do some soul-searching, some spring cleaning, some reevaluating of this and that, and I am there again now, it seems.  I have been going through a lot in "real life" lately, and whenever that happens, I start to look at everything else, too, and adjust accordingly.  The details of all this are not really important (and honestly, who really cares anyway - lol!  I am still shocked and amazed than anyone ever reads my ramblings at all... ).  What it all boils down to for me here on dA is that I want to make some changes to what I do here.  Some of you know the particulars of why I came to dA in the first place, what it is I was hoping to accomplish.  But lately I am feeling a bit like the "pendulum has swung too far," and it needs to start to swing back.  Think of it a little like a kid in a candy shop starting to feel a little green around the gills after awhile.  The kid still loves sugar!   But perhaps a nice apple or some juicy raspberries or something might be nice for a change, too

  "Out with it, Ellen!  Stop rambling!"  Okay, so I sometimes struggle with the fact that my gallery is not very "family friendly" given the sometimes "mature" nature of my manips.  Granted, everyone has different ideas of what is and isn't "too mature" for their families, but for me, I want to tone it down a bit.  So I am giving you fair warning: at the end of the month of June, I am planning to start removing my mature-tagged artwork and either repost more modest versions of them, or just leave them down altogether.  If there are any of them that you like (and, alas, my two most popular images fall into this category...), download them or save them somewhere before then   I don't know how this will affect the number of people who me now - maybe I will lose a lot of you for lack of boobies   I guess we shall see...

I have also started the arduous task of sifting through and removing some of the racier faves from my folders, though that really shouldn't affect anyone but me, I suppose.

As some of you have also noticed, I have left all but one of the Groups that I was a member of.  This was NOT because of content in the galleries of these groups!  I just decided it wasn't fair to be a member of a zillion  groups if I wasn't going to be active in them hardly at all.  Once I finish figuring out what I want to do here, maybe I will join some of them again.  I dunno...

Last but not least: for the time being, I have also closed down any more requests for Elves and anything else, just so I can get caught up.  I love doing them, I love to make people smile, but some of you have been waiting forEVER, and it's not fair.  For those who HAVE requested something from me, I have not forgotten, and I will honor all of those requests - even the ones with the nekkidness in them   But once you have downloaded those mature-tagged images, I will remove them, too.

So that's about it.  I will still be around here, I will still continue doing the things I love most: collecting beautiful artwork and Featuring it for everyone to see   The ironic part of this whole inner struggle of mine is that I have nothing at all against nudity (as evidenced by some of this week's Features... I already had most of these images chosen LAST week, but dA wouldn't let me post any more thumbnail images in my previous Journal... ) and I will still be using lots of nude images as bases for my future works.  I personally find that there is little in this universe more beautiful than the human body But at the same time, I just don't personally want to have a gallery full of images that cannot be viewed by everyone if they want to do so, or that some parents would not want their kids browsing through.  So a bit of ivy here, a strategically-placed butterfly there and voilà - no need to tag things!  

If anyone out there has actually read through all of this (...you must be really bored today!) and has an opinion they would like to share - either here or in a Note - feel free!  My Journals don't generally tend to stir up much conversation, so maybe this one will

...Yep, that's right: I am getting back into the swing of things finally, and back to those things which I know best.  The only problem is that I have no idea WHAT those things are!   

In the meantime, I will hopefully start to get caught up on all the backlog of Elves and other manip requests that I have had sitting here forever, and back to regular Features and new cookies and whatever else I can find to pass the time that seems to have come back to me a bit rather unexpectedly

First of all, some of you may have noticed that I changed my avatar... and most will say "who cares?"

Well I do, only because I made the new one myself... which for someone who is fairly illiterate when it comes to all things technical, I am quite pleased, even if it is a very simple thing for some of you to do   

I am also excited to maybe see if I can now animate stamps and cookies and all sorts of stuff - woo hoo!!!

(...yeah, I know, I know: it's the little things that excite me the most - lol! )

Oh, and just for the record, My dear friend made my other icon for me, and I may go back to that one, since I loved it so much

In other news... My friend and I had been discussing Venus in art last week, and so I wanted to do a little Venus-inspired Features for you all to enjoy.  Alas, in the meantime, she has apparently decided to take a little hiatus from dA to attend to other "real life" concerns (...can you believe it?  What nerve! ), so she won't likely see this Feature at all unless she hurries back.  But, here it is anyway, 'cause if I don't post this now while I am thinking about it, I will completely forget when Crayon comes back

omg, I am SO spoiled ROTTEN by you guys here!!!  So many birthday greetings and wishes and presents - I have to say, I kinda felt like I was at a party all day long here, and I have never been to a party before with so many wonderful people... I am sorry for those who have been SO patiently waiting on Elves and such from me - I really have not forgotten about you!  Things have just been very all-consuming (obsessively so) with life, the universe, and everything lately!  But the Easter weekend promises a bit of free-time, so I will hopefully do a little writing, catch up on some reading, and maybe even Elf a few of you

Well, the polls have been posted MORE than long enough - and I have been lazy long enough, too - lol!  So it is time to FINALLY announce the winners of the Elf Project!

  Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Ellen.  I am new here to dA, or is SEEMS that way sometimes, since it has been so long!  Ugh.

First off, my sincerest apologies for being so scarce again lately!  I should just accept the fact that there will never be enough time in the day to do everything that I want to do, especially when all the things I have to do keep needing to get done first (which, by definition, makes sense, I suppose )!  So the journal Features are fewer, and the deviations are farther between, but I'm still here!    

And though some of you are still waiting on new manips from me, I had to update the journal first... My dearest wil get a big head if I leave her artwork Featured here exclusively any longer, and I would feel just awful if that happened and she tipped over and skinned her forehead all because of me!
